A. Armid Mines
Q: How much damage do mines do?
A: When a player enters a sector with mines in it, they will only be
hit by half the mines. i.e. a player will never be hit with the full 250
mines, 125 mines is the most that will detonate in one blow. Each mine
will hit for about 11-13 points of damage. "Armid mines cause 20 points
of damage per mine in version 2.01 . A sector can hold up to 99.
In version 2.01, the sector maximum is 250." (DMD 4/30/96). "Mines
will destroy fighters if your ship doesn't have any shields left." (DMD
2/15/96)
"Armids do have their purpose early in the game to help protect your
tunnel. Late in the game they are good early warning detection devices.
Especially if you surround your tunnel with them. An ISS will have to refill
three times to completely disrupt them." (AX.BBS/TW.NET - TEX,5/21/96)
B. Limpet Mines
Limpet mines attach to the ships which enter the sector where they are
deployed. SD and Class 0 ports will offer to remove Limpets for a fee of
5000 credits but can't tell who they belong to. Attached limpets will reduce
the trade-in value of a ship. If limpet mines you leave do not get removed
when you tell where they are, and thus where the ship they attached to
are by doing a mine scan (K). Leaving Limpets in a sector where a player
you're attacking is will NOT cause one to attach to their escape pod. Too
bad. That would be a good strategy! Mine disrupters will not get rid of
deployed limpets. You can get rid of limpets by repeatedly entering and
leaving a sector. If someone else's limpets are in a sector you will not
be able to leave limpet or armid mines of your own. As with armid mines,
limpet mines cannot be deployed in fedspace and will be removed from Major
Space Lanes.
Q: Do all Class 0 ports remove limpets?
A: Yes
Q: Will moving in and out of a sector clear it of limpets?
A: Yes, Every time you move into the limpet'd sector, it will remove
the current limpet from your ship and put on a new one.
"When Limpet mines are attached to your ship you will be unable to
deploy any type of mines. An error message will appear saying 'You can't
deploy these.' (??unsure of exact quote). Limpets read as a '2' on a density
scanner and the 'anomaly' indicates a 'yes.' An activated limpet will display
the date and time it was activated." (DMD 2/5/96)
"On the game I've been playing I have "limpet proofed" my ship...what
I do is have a corpie switch into my ships and run over my personal limpets
- Presto! All of the ships that I use now have my OWN limpets on them.
Eliminates the guess work as to whether or not the limpet I have is friendly."
